Aim

Apparatus
- Calipers: For measuring the diameter and rib dimensions of the rebar.
- Micrometer: For more precise measurement of the rebar diameter.
- Measuring Tape or Ruler: For measuring the length of the rebar.
- Profile Projector or Optical Comparator: For detailed inspection of the rib pattern and deformation.
- Gauge Blocks: For calibrating measuring instruments.
- Go/No-Go Gauges: For quick assessment of rebar dimensions against standard tolerances.
- Surface Plate: For providing a flat reference surface for measurements.
- Data Recording Sheet: For documenting the measurements and results.
Procedure
- Sample Preparation:
- Select rebar samples randomly from the batch to ensure a representative inspection.
- Clean the rebar samples to remove any dirt, rust, or scale that could affect the measurements.
- Calibration:
- Calibrate all measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, etc.) using gauge blocks to ensure accuracy.
- Diameter Measurement:
- Measure the diameter of the rebar at multiple points along its length using calipers or a micrometer.
- Record the measurements and calculate the average diameter to check against the specified nominal diameter.
- Length Measurement:
- Measure the total length of the rebar using a measuring tape or ruler.
- Ensure that the rebar is straight and aligned properly for accurate measurement.
- Rib Pattern Inspection:
- Use a profile projector or optical comparator to inspect the rib pattern, including rib height, spacing, and angle.
- Compare the rib pattern against the specified standards for the particular rebar type.
- Deformation Measurement:
- Measure the rib height and spacing at multiple points along the rebar using calipers.
- Record the measurements and ensure they fall within the specified tolerances.
- Go/No-Go Gauge Testing:
- Use go/no-go gauges to quickly check the diameter and rib dimensions of the rebar.
- If the rebar passes the go/no-go gauge test, it meets the specified dimensional tolerances.
- Data Recording:
- Document all measurements and observations on the data recording sheet.
- Note any deviations from the specified standards and tolerances.
Result
- Measurement Data:
- Compile the measurements for diameter, length, rib height, and spacing.
- Calculate the average and standard deviation for each dimension.
